Message from The Chairman DDSL Paddy Dempsey As We Pprepare To Commence The 2020/2021 Season

Dear Club Secretary:

I hope you and all involved with your clubs are safe and well during these difficult times for everyone.

As the start of the new football season is imminent, I would like to thank each and every one of you for the time and patience you have shown over the past 6 months, and for adhering to the many protocols and guidelines issued.

There are many things we once knew as normal not so long ago that have changed. These changes now present new challenges to every club. Whether your club is seen as big, small or somewhere in between, all will have new challenges to overcome to enable football to resume on Saturday 12th September 2020.

While there are many difficulties we have to overcome, the guiding principle followed by the league has and will remain until this virus is overcome, “the health and safety of everyone involved in the game of football in the DDSL”

In the best interest of our clubs, all guidelines/protocols from the HSE/NPHET & the FAI were issued by the DDSL to our clubs.

Our guiding principle set out above will not change as we kick off the new season, in fact the workload facing everyone will be increased substantially. All the hard work in preparing your facilities, whether a private ground or a public park cannot be underestimated.

Please do not let all that hard work go to waste, the real battle starts now to keep the facilities safe and ready for football to be played. It is very easy to become complacent, to let the standards required slip, this is the time to be even more vigilant, in our efforts to keep this virus out of our game or at least to minimise the risk of it spreading.

No one can accurately forecast what will happen with this virus, all we can do as a collective is follow the return to train & play protocols that have been issued over the past number of weeks. The trojan work done has already laid the foundations for our return, I would ask all our clubs/teams, to play their part by following the guidelines & protocols, to enable our young players to play football in a safe environment.

The leagues aspirations for season 20/21, are to complete the league and cup competitions that have been set up, and with the cooperation of all our stakeholders we aim to make that happen.

With approx. 135 clubs, catering for 1,900 teams for girls and boys, the challenges are enormous, however by working together, we can overcome these challenges, to ensure football matches are provided for our young players throughout the season.

In closing, I would like to wish everyone involved, an enjoyable season, and more importantly a safe & healthy one.

Paddy Dempsey
